While I took basic accounting classes in college as an elective 50 years ago, I never came close to the long time accepted accounting principles again until I converted my church’s financial accounting to Flockbase last year. 1)Functional coverage provided by the Flockbase software for a small church is complete and rock solid, without bugs or workarounds, responsive, available from a broad variety of platforms (you only need a web browser), technically simple, and excellent value. From an accounting standpoint, Flockbase does all we could ever want - donations, fund management, bill paying, budgeting, payroll, etc. - and does it well. Payroll is amazingly simple. Reports are fantastic. With flockbase, I have complete control of my church’s finances. 2)Flockbase customer service is outstanding. Calls are returned and questions answered quickly. The customer service representative is a church accounting expert. In retrospect, I should have leaned on Flockbase support more heavily initially. It would have shortened my learning curve. > > **Cons**: 1)The function that I like least is the memorized transactions user interface. I use it heavily and it works without problems, but unlike the rest of Flockbase, it is somewhat cumbersome, unfriendly, and inflexible. 2)Payroll is wonderfully simple, but the quarterly and annual processing could be enhanced. Automating the 941 and W2 processes would be a major improvement. > > My experience with Flockbase has been a wonderful surprise. I set it up and paralleled the old system during the second half of 2025. Using the online training materials only, understanding and using Flockbase progressed quicker and less time consuming than expected (prior exposure to accounting principles, even 50 years ago, was a helpful blessing). The rich functionality was more than expected. Prime examples are fund management and budget tracking. Flockbase took all the work out of managing church funds and Church financial management has never been better informed of current status and outlook. I depended on the Flockbase Customer Service heavily to implement the system for our church. The patience and exceptional help was fantastic. I was able to get the system up and running over a 2 month period. > > **Cons**: The software does not Close a year and start new accounting period for fiscal year. Since you pick the reporting periods I found you have to refer to the beginning balances that happened in the previous fiscal year when reviewing account balances. > > Our previous system required separate tracking spread sheets for some of our tithing and giving. It also requiredseperate tracking for a balance sheet. I tried to learn FlockBase for 9 months, finally gave up and bought another system, I learned how to use it in a few hours. I entered all my church contributions for 9 months in one week. I gave FlockBase one star because no stars is not an option.
