My primary use is for Road designs and general construction designs of surfaces. Roadeng is a very user friendly platform and provides me with the ability to generate quality designs very quickly and produce a stakeout file for construction grade staking. The team at Roadeng adapts the software to new industry standards and practices and continually makes changes for better work flows and features. > > **Cons**: The terrain tool is slow at times to render large point files such as high density point clouds. There is an option to reduce the points imported which helps this process. Could use a layers control centre to more easily turn layers off/on. > > Softree has some of the same support team and programmers from when I started working with this product for about 25 years now. I've seen this product evolve so much and through it all they have maintained a consistent support network of people and quality product. The technical support with Softree is unbeatable, anytime you have a question or an issue they are quick to help you and guide you through to a solution. Considering how powerful the program is it’s very to learn and to teach. It can provide a very high level of detail when you need it, or you can quickly rough out a design to test an idea. It lets you choose how much time you want to spend and how much detail you want to include. > > **Cons**: I can’t really think of anything that’s more than a passing niggle. > > We build 35km of new road every year. These roads need to support 50t trucks. The country we operate in is very erodible and steep (often over 60% side slope). Building a road that doesn't work would be a very expensive mistake for us to make, both environmentally and financially. With Roadeng a relatively small team is able to do a lot of basic design work to identify the critical and/or expensive sections of earthworks. Installing curves is a breeze, as well as designing for balanced, cost-effective earthwork. I really enjoy the 3D Drive Through/Fly By tool which allows you to simulate driving your finished road. The customer service is extremely responsive, personable, and helpful. > > **Cons**: I think it might be worth evaluating how the "assign by range" feature works so that it does not assign road features by station. As you make changes to the alignment, the stations change and you have to remember to update the "assign by ranges" you entered.
