What Is Abstract?

Abstract is a design workflow management system that enables seamless and open collaboration between design teams and other organizational stakeholders.

Abstract is your team's version-controlled source of truth for design work. We believe that design shouldn't be locked away in folders and proprietary code.

Design work should be accessible. Decisions should be captured in a single place. And teams should be empowered to work together, not silod.

"Every design team needs Abstract."

Comments: Essential software for a design team's workflow.

Pros: Finally an elegant solution for version control on the design side. Abstract allows everyone in my organization to keep on the same page as far as latest designs, what changed and being able to collaborated easily.

Cons: The software could become more intuitive. Master docs versus branches provides some confusion.

"Switched over from InVision, it's ok so far"

Comments: We collaborate on all our mockups in abstract and it's been ok so far. Considering to give Figma a try though

Pros: - seamless sketch integration
- pretty good commenting functionality

Cons: - their desktop app is slow sometimes
- pretty often I find myself confused and stuck with the interface, which I don't expect with the designer tool

"GitHub for Designers"

Pros: I liked how it provided a solution for collaboration on the same file for designers. It removes issues where you would create conflicted files or multiple files when two people are working on the same file. It also allows you to resolve conflicts in the software when you merge in your branch, keeping a clean and accurate master file.

Cons: I disliked how sometimes it glitched. Since you host your files within Abstract, there was one time where I got very close to losing a whole day's worth of work. They pushed an update the same time as Sketch, but one needed to be updated first. It then reverted my file to how it was when I last committed. They provided a solution and I got my changes back, but there is that risk that they host your files, not you.

"It's easy to use for devs too"

Comments: Overall experience is great, Abstract makes the collaboration easier between devs and designers.

Pros: As a developer I'm not vey familiar with Photoshop or sketch, but with Abstract all the UI that the designers create are easily accessible and manageable even for developers.

Cons: Sometimes it's confusing where is what, the UX is not always the best but it's still much better than any other similar app out there.
