It gives you simple, reliable information on how a funder prefers that you reach out to them and the steps to do so, including any deadlines, online applications, and different streams of funding. I also love how easy it is to view histories of giving by gift amount, organization, and sector. This critical information at a glance helps you understand the giving interests of a funder within literally seconds. My first step when researching any source of funding is to look them up on Grant Connect. > > **Cons**: Having a last updated date would help understand how current information is. I understand much information is generated by CRA and funder websites. Like all charities and not-for-profits we have staff turnover, which means I will have to train them to use Grant Connect. It is so easy to understand the entire training takes a couple of hours at the very most and they are good to go, which for me means that this jet gets refueled inflight rather than stop land and start climbing all over again. > > **Cons**: I honestly have not found anything that I do not like, and I use it on a regular basis. I have worked with numerous prospect research databases, but I have found Grant Connect to provide the best bang for the buck. It's easy to navigate, contains a lot of great information about the prospect, it has a useful tracking feature to help you stay on schedule, and it doesn't include a lot of useless "bells and whistles". > > **Cons**: One of the largest issues for me has been that the information can be out-of-date or incorrect. A couple examples are individuals on the board of directors who have passed away (several years ago) and incorrect deadlines for grant submissions - in both of these instances it said the data had been updated within the last three months of my search. Beyond that, I know I can rely on the fact that the Grant Connect team has checked and re-checked information, including what's necessary and interpreting what's obscure - and they respond so quickly if I need help or guidance. Other tools I have used in the past do not have the same depth of information and understanding of fundraising as Grant Connect. > > **Cons**: Our organization does not currently use the prospect management tools, such as the Pipeline, however I can see that it would still a valuable tool for smaller organizations looking to organize their research. > > Grant Connect is where my team goes both to identify new prospects and to consolidate and confirm our knowledge of our long term donors. I use the database in many different ways - on the fly in meetings, when a donor comes up and we want to get a baseline level of detail about it; during an afternoon research session when I'm compiling more detailed profiles of funders; and even to learn about our own organization's history with a donor through the gift histories. We've identified prospects geographically, by cause, and in many other combinations.
