What Is OneDrive?
Microsoft OneDrive is a web-based digital asset management solution that allows businesses of all sizes to efficiently manage, collaborate, and share files. Administrators can set up a private or public site for authorized users, who can then create online folders to store their documents. Businesses can share sensitive data without revealing proprietary information by allowing only authorized people to access the folder. Users can also access and edit documents within the same collaborative environment to increase efficiency. The Microsoft 365 interactive scanning app lets users scan and convert paper to searchable PDFs directly from their device.

Reviews of OneDrive
Access the cloud on your machine
Comments: Fantastic. No more files on desktop or on local machine.
Pros:
Cloud on your computer feature - sync a folder and you have cloud files at your fingertips.
Cons:
removing a synched folder from your machine might delete it from the cloud. Have to factor that in all the times
Steve Rob Music - OneDrive Review
Comments: OneDrive is excellent, especially when we need to share a confidential file and can protect it with a password. We also appreciate the customization options for folders, allowing us to change folder colors, like making one purple or red, for easy organization. Additionally, we value the ability to adjust storage limits, choosing between options like 1 TB or 2 TB as needed.
Pros:
We’ve been using OneDrive in our organization and appreciate how it enables us to organize files more effectively. We also value its ability to limit access, allowing us to share specific folders exclusively with certain departments, such as Human Resources, for example.
Cons:
Two issues we have with OneDrive are, first, the slowdown we experience when syncing desktop files to OneDrive. For example, if we sync a large folder full of files, it noticeably impacts our computer's performance, despite our devices generally being quite powerful. It would improve our experience if the syncing process caused less interference with our computers' speed. Secondly, we frequently encounter problems with incomplete uploads, especially with folders containing subfolders, images, PDFs, and other files. Once the upload process finishes, we often see a notification stating that certain files weren't uploaded, which is frustrating. We then have to attempt re-uploading those files individually, which is both time-consuming and inconvenient. It would be helpful if OneDrive provided more detailed explanations about why certain files couldn’t be uploaded.
Limited and Inconvenient
Comments: My overall experience with OneDrive has not been the greatest. It is buggy at times, it has file name, and file path size limits, and sometimes it deletes files out of nowhere. However, it isn't all bad, it integrates great with the Microsoft ecosystem, it is relatively cheap, it has amazing cross-platform accessibility, great collaboration features, version history, and offline access. Overall, I wouldn't recommend it unless your company relies on Microsoft365.
Pros:
OneDrive seamlessly integrates with the Microsoft ecosystem, it is relatively cheap, it has cross-platform accessibility, great collaboration features, version history, and offline access.
Cons:
OneDrive has a file name limit, which means that, when a file name is longer than 255 character, it will not sync. OneDrive also has a file path limit. When the path exceed 400 characters, it also won't sync, which can be inconvenient at times. Sometimes, OneDrive will delete files out of nowhere. These can be easily recoverable, it's just annoying that it happens in the first place.
A Powerful Storage Resource
Comments: I have been storing my files with OneDrive for over 10 years and have never lost a file or folder. When I want to delete or download a file or folder it's easy to do so. Also it's easy to share files with others who I have on my shared network. I really like that I can easily upload and download files I use weekly to a OneDrive folder on my computer hardrive rather than storing them on OneDrive online.
Pros:
It's a secure means I depend upon to save all of my website, business and personal files.
Cons:
It doesn't always work the same throughout every browser. I have a problem getting into my saved folders at times when using Microsoft edge. Since I normally use Google Chrome, I don't see this as a problem for me.
OneDrive Review
Comments: The fact that my data is secure when kept in OneDrive also gives me peace of mind. Taking a lot of factors into account, I can state that this application is really dependable, easy to use, and keeps me working while also making my life easier and my data safer.
Pros:
OneDrive's cloud storage is something I enjoy using because it frees up a lot of space on my smartphone. Additionally, it enables me to access my files on any device. Whether I'm making documents or presentations for work, OneDrive works nicely with other programs.
Cons:
I've had no problems with OneDrive for the past three years, and I adore it. I think a lot of people have problems because they don't read the instructions, don't understand how it works, and just click "yes" to everything when installing it.
Easy Document Management
Comments: I use it for both my work account and my own private account and can toggle easily between both. I'm able to get a near real time view when uploading or removing many documents at once.
Pros:
The ability to sync documents is very hands off, and the performance is very good. I don't see my computer resources getting slammed when syncing a bunch of documents at once.
Cons:
Integration with windows PC's seems to mess up when connecting from my VPN. I have to manually connect at times. Also as a software engineer, I have source code that won't migrate to a new machine due to git restrictions. There are some nuances like that.
OneDrive is a Game Changer!
Comments: Overall OneDrive has helped our office work as efficiently as possible on numerous projects. It is also great for accessing information for workers that work remotely or don't come into the office every day. I would highly recommend OneDrive to any small or large business.
Pros:
OneDrive is an essential part of our small business. This is the glue that connects our employees and lets us view our information in real time. We work on projects often and it helps that multiple people can view and edit as needed simultaneously.
Cons:
We have experienced very few cons with OneDrive. OneDrive rarely disconnects, but it's very easy to reconnect.
OneDrive 1Life
Comments: Overall positive, I appreciate the functionality of OneDrive and it's interrogatability with various software and platforms.
Pros:
Compatibility with iOS and sharing documents. Storage.
Cons:
Loosing documents, struggles sharing, and finding them.
Reliable Cloud Storage with Minor Hiccups
Pros:
Seamless file sync and cloud accessibility
Cons:
Occasional sync issues and slow upload speeds
OneDrive: A Solid Cloud Storage Option with Great Integration
Comments: For personal and work-related file management, it’s been a valuable tool for me.
Pros:
I love how easy it is to store, sync, and access files across devices. The ability to collaborate on documents in real-time using Office apps is a huge productivity boost.
Cons:
Syncing large files or folders is sometimes slow, and occasional errors in syncing is frustrating for me sometimes.
Alternatives Considered:
OneDrive the only Drive
Comments: My over all satisfaction to one drive isits the best I've found yet .
Pros:
It's everything I need in one, from sending pics to transferring files plus it has an automatic back up in case if something happens it is saved
Cons:
The cost it took to purchase the software
Alternatives Considered:
One Drive review
Pros:
One Drive does a fantastic job keeping all of its apps in the same place. Easy to use double monitor and jump around on all the apps. Makes saving certain documents very easy and allows you to share them with ease as well.
Cons:
When first started researching and then using this product there were lots of concerns for its data vulnerability. Seems like the privacy could use an upgrade.
Alternatives Considered:
One drive - Day to day
Comments: Fantastic bit of software, one that i will always be using or even pushing for.
Pros:
Everything is synced across all my devices just by logging in. The 2fa security is great bonus for peace of mind an security. I have deployed One Drive to some of my supported businesses as more and more we find the Hybrid work role becoming popular. For them/us to be able to access our documents on and off site is critical, One drive lets us do this with ease.
Cons:
Sometimes we get duplicate items on the desktop, especially when Edge is syncing.
Nice MS Office integrated cloud storage
Comments: Nice MS Office integrated cloud storage.
Pros:
Nice MS office integration and desktop apps. Easy access on major platforms, Windows, MacOS, iOS etc.
Cons:
Overall, no real complaints nor cons of use. Google drive and google workspace integration is better for live collaboration, but that’s not OneDrive’s issue.
OneDrive is integrated seamlessly into Microsoft Applications. A must for MS users.
Comments: Our office uses a SharePoint site to manage all internal documents. When moving files into or between sites/pages, your OneDrive will appear along with the other pages as a location. It does not feel like a separate ap and makes sharing work easy.
Pros:
OneDrive syncs to your PC File Explorer making file management for those who still use desktops and easy and familiar experience. The SharePoint integration is seamless as well and works in the same manner as any of your site pages.
Cons:
Nothing. We are very satisfied with OneDrive.
Good option to manage files in the cloud
Comments: It's our main solution for file storage and sharing. The great thing is that the files are available over multiple devices, you can easily share with other colleagues, have shared folders with different teams, and even share with external partners. This allows me not to worry about the files anymore, as I can be sure that I always have the latest version. Another great thing is that you can choose which files are saved locally so you can for example access these files from mobile only when you need them, while they are always synced on the desktop.
Pros:
The space you get with the account is a good value for the price of the subscription to 365. OneDrive makes it easy to set it up on the computer, use as a regular windows folder and forget it's even running, while everything is synced to the cloud. The Autosave integraton with Office files that allows you to have the file autosaved every couple of minutes is also great since you don't need to worry anymore that you will lose some of the work you've done. And if you need, you can also restore some of the previous versions easily, which is really helpful.
Cons:
The app has sometimes had hickupps - it stops syncing, needs restart, etc. However, this has happened less and less in the past year or two, so they've probably found a way to fix this now.
OneDrive - all in one place
Comments: I was part of the team that helped implement the use of OneDrive across our organization. And also test ahead of the larger masses to make sure that it was a viable option for our organization.
Pros:
It's easy to link up a company directory and intranet drive and be able to save money by utilizing the cloud storage.
Cons:
How fast you can transfer files is at the mercy of your internet.Or black thereof it goes out. This can be difficult and create problems for your productivity.
Great Cloud Storage!
Comments: My overall experience with OneDrive has been positive. I have never had any problems getting files on multiple devices. You can quickly search and download all your files on multiple devices.
Pros:
The one thing I like most about OneDrive is its free to use. You can pay a subscription to get my storage if needed. I am a teacher and use multiple devices. I have a computer at work, at home, a laptop, and a tablet. I have all my devices connected to OneDrive. If I am working on an assignment at work, I can easily pick back up when I get home. I don't have to worry about saving everything to a flash drive and pray I don't forget it before leaving. I also like to have backups of everything I do. OneDrive makes it simple to search for a certain assignment
Cons:
One of the cons of using OneDrive is you have to pay to get more storage. You would think they would include this when you buy a Microsoft account.
Great storage solution, especially if you are already in the Microsoft Suite
Pros:
Easy to manage UI, great integration with other Microsoft products
Cons:
Connections can be a bit choppy especially with sharepoint. Collaborations are a bit lacking
OneDrive, one and only way to get cloud space!
Pros:
As a Microsoft user having OneDrive integrated with all my other softwares, makes it a lot easier to be sure all of my documents are secure in the cloud and spares space in my laptop.
Cons:
It’s easy go get disorganized if you don’t implement a system in the beginning of OneDrive usage
Easy to use and a winner
Comments: Makes folder management really easy. It’s easy to share links to documents or folders with different levels of access.
Pros:
Really simple to use. I like that you don’t need to exit the windows folder library to use one drive, it makes it so straight forward and intuitive.
Cons:
I’ve found that if there are ever issues syncing your one drive, meaning your documents or work hasn’t been uploaded yet, it’s not made as obvious as it could do. You’ll see a small yellow exclamation mark on the icon in the bottom right but I find that is easily missed. That is my only negative feedback - other than that, it’s a great seamless feature.
Convenient, safe file storage easily accessible across devices
Comments: OneDrive helps ensure that files I am working on can be saved automatically and also easily retrieved across multiple devices. Files can be shared without having to worry about file sizes and permissions can be applied.
Pros:
The fact that documents I am working on can be saved automatically and easily shared with others without worrying about file sizes. Files can also be easily retrieved across multiple devices.
Cons:
Sometimes loading OneDrive takes time on mobile devices.
Good Product from one of the Best Companies
Comments: Great experience and product run by one of the biggest and best companies in the world. It is fairly priced when it comes to storing large amounts of data on the cloud but it is free for a decent amount which is awesome to get started!
Pros:
Web-based and you can organize your whole life! I love working on the web so everything saves all the time! This cuts down on admin time. All my documents are organized for home, life, church, work, etc in folders which is reliving to know where to find everything when I need it!
Cons:
The login process as well as the switchover from Hotmail to Outlook which kind of go hand in hand was cumbersome for many years. If you are a new user, you can avoid the confusion and be all their new software which is great!
Critical app that is a great value from Microsoft.
Pros:
OneDrive is available on all devices and platforms. It is a core component of Microsoft Office.
Cons:
Sometimes I wish the UI would get a refresh so it would be more like Apple photos or Google photos when using the Photos component on mobile. Or, better yet, a separate app for Photos.
A Must For Secure and Remote File Sharing and Collaboration
Pros:
OneDrive is the key way I share files with colleagues and enables us to work on the same document at the same time. This definitely increases the speed in which we can deliver work to clients. I like how simple it is to share files too, while also being incredible secure.
Cons:
I find that the desktop version isn't as accurate as the online version. I lean towards accessing all files online to avoid losing work due to desktop connection/login issues.
